The Awe of Christmas
If you have grown up in a Christian home or been a follower for a long time it can be easy for the stories that we read in scripture to lose some of the “wow” factor that many of us felt the first time we read those stories. The Christmas story is one of those stories that we can read so many times that we forget what an incredible story it is!
Think about the fact that nobody had heard from God for hundreds of years. All of a sudden, He is telling a young girl and man that they are going to be the earthly parents of the Son of God. I wonder if they had a hard time believing that God was calling them to such a great calling. Not only this, but they actually said yes to this difficult path that God had set for them. It’s crazy to think about!
Think about the fact that the God of the universe, the creator of all, was willing to come to this earth in the form of a human. Think of how He was willing to come and not be born to the political or religious elite, but to ordinary people. Not only was He willing to be born the way He was, but He was willing to be even be born knowing the difficult path that was ahead of Him! It’s crazy to think about!
I want to encourage you this Christmas season as you read through the Christmas story to think about what an incredible story this really is. Think about how God uses ordinary people to do some extraordinary things. Think about the love God had to send His son the way He did. Think about what an amazing God we serve. Take some time and allow yourself to be in awe of the incredible God we serve. Be in awe that He uses ordinary people like you and me. Be in awe that he loved us enough to send us His son. Take some time to be amazed by the amazing God who loves us and has made us His own.
